The Russia-Ukraine Crisis and History Explained
As you all know, Russia attacked Ukraine last week in a blatant act of war. No two ways about it, this is a historic moment and it could be the start of a global war.
That said, the news coverage here in the US is almost completely devoid of context.
So, I spent some time reading into the history of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and trying to understand why it got to this point. As you might imagine, the history is more complicated than news reports make it out to be.
While none of this excuses Russia's aggression, it does help to understand the relationship between these two countries (which have only been separated from each other for 30 years). News coverage tends toward the sensational and the imaginary, but I find it much more helpful to look back in history when things like this happen.
